Birmingham Hippodrome until 12th April

***** “Peckham Perfection”

A warm nostalgic and very funny affectionate tale based on the hugely successful television comedy of the same name. With some tunes added for good measure.

Jim Sullivan, the son of the original creator John together with Paul Whitehouse cleverly entwine some of the programme’s classic moments into their fast-moving script. Paul Whitehouse also plays Grandad for the Birmingham run and has a lot of cheeky fun bringing him to life.

Sam Lupton is a standout bundle of energy as Del-Boy, all the recognizable mannerisms together with a superb hold on comic timing. Newcomer Tom Major as Rodney also crafts a very watchable performance, carved with naivety and gawkiness. The supporting cast all work well as a busy ensemble as well as igniting to life some much loved, and in many cases much missed characters. Even Uncle Albert has a quick cameo. Thanks again to Paul Whitehouse.

The set swivels with as much ease as a Robin Reliant, and the music and songs are a pleasant if not hugely memorable addition. It is a title that still sells and sells well, the warmth tumbled into the stalls with ease, and for OFAH fans in particular you will not want to miss it.
